The Atlanta Braves recently saw Reynaldo López get into an altercation with Jorge Soler just a couple of weeks ago. The incident resulted in both players receiving suspensions.
“Chad Bishop of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that MLB and López reach a settlement whereby his suspension is reduced to five games and he will start serving it immediately. It’s not clear if that includes today’s game, which started a few minutes after the suspension announcement,” MLB Trade Rumors’ Darragh McDonald wrote.
Since the ejection, López hasn’t performed at the same level. His most recent start in Washington was especially rough, as he failed to make it out of the second inning.
“With the Atlanta Braves in the middle of a 10-game stretch without a day off, the team was certainly hoping for a longer start from Reynaldo Lopez, especially with their closer Raisel Iglesias hitting the IL before their Tuesday game. Instead, Lopez was hammered for four runs, and was pulled in the second inning before he could even record an out,” HTHB’s Mitchell Barbee wrote.
The numbers suggest López may be trending in the wrong direction, particularly as he struggles to regain feel for his slider.
“In 2026, however, that strength has turned into a glaring weakness. López now sits in the 1st percentile in the same metric—a dramatic reversal that highlights just how significantly his slider’s effectiveness has deteriorated. López’s slider has taken a significant step back in 2026, with its whiff rate dropping by more than 11% compared to his dominant 2024 campaign. The results have been just as troubling: opposing hitters have seen their production against the pitch skyrocket, as evidenced by a jump in wOBA from .220 to .440. The pitch lacks its previous sharpness, command has wavered, and it’s being hit harder than ever—a recipe for disaster,”
Reynaldo López struggled significantly, allowing four runs and being pulled from the game without recording an out in the second inning.
Reynaldo López was suspended for an altercation with teammate Jorge Soler, but his suspension was later reduced to five games.
Since the suspension, Reynaldo López's performance has declined, highlighted by his poor outing in Washington where he failed to last beyond the second inning.

The Braves need López to be a key contributor in the rotation this season, especially with the injuries they’ve already dealt with. While this could simply be a rough patch for the right-hander, there’s also concern that it could develop into something more serious.
There’s no need to panic just yet, but it’s definitely a situation worth monitoring. The Braves know how valuable López can be, and he’s working to get back to that level.
