The Atlanta Braves will have some decisions to make on Tuesday when Raisel Iglesias returns from injury. The Braves have multiple directions they can go with the roster move, and one possible candidate to be the odd man out is left-handed reliever Aaron Bummer.
“Think there's a decent chance the Braves DFA Bummer on Tuesday when Iglesias returns. Much easier option is Carrasco but they might want his rubber arm for the rest of the road trip. I suppose they could also send Ritchie down after Monday's start,” Battery Power’s Scott Coleman posted.
Bummer has not gotten off to a strong start in the first month of the season for Atlanta, which was not expected. The lefty has struggled to find consistency, and nothing seems to be clicking. There are also concerns about his velocity.
“Bummer's velocity drop is concerning, but he’s also just not the same pitcher this year as he’s been for the Braves in past seasons. Including Sunday’s game, Bummer faced 23 batters, gave up seven hits, including three home runs, struck out four, and walked one,” HTHB’s Fred Owens wrote.
The Braves are considering cutting Aaron Bummer due to his inconsistent performance and struggles with velocity.
Raisel Iglesias' return will prompt the Braves to make roster adjustments, potentially leading to Aaron Bummer being designated for assignment.
Instead of DFAing Bummer, the Braves could opt to send Ritchie down or keep Carrasco for the remainder of the road trip.

On Monday night, Bummer struggled again in his outing against the Seattle Mariners. With another rough appearance, there are growing questions about whether he will be the roster casualty once Iglesias is officially activated.
“Joel Payamps and José Suarez were both done in Atlanta after giving up two runs each against the Tigers on April 30th. Aaron Bummer got bailed out by Carlos Carrasco here, but two hits and a walk in his four batters faced can't be inspiring. Have to wonder if that's it for him,” Braves Today’s Lindsay Crosby posted.
In previous seasons, Bummer has been a reliable arm for Atlanta, but that has not been the case this year. At times, it feels more likely he will allow a run than work a clean inning.
Bummer is in the final year of his $13 million deal with the Braves. This was not the expectation heading into the season, which is why he could already be on the move just a month into the year.
