We finally have an update on the mysterious case of Mykhailo Mudryk.
The Chelsea winger hasnât played since November 2024, when he tested positive for banned substances while on international duty with Ukraine.
He was subsequently charged in June 2025, but there has been no update since on his punishment. Incredibly, weâre only finding out about it now that Mudryk has challenged it in the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
The Athletic got confirmation from CAS that Mudryk has challenged the FA, who have banned him for four years. Multiple other sources told them that the former Shakhtar winger had tested positive for Meldonium, a banned substance.
Mudrykâs ban will be backdated to when he stopped playing 18 months ago. So he will be halfway through in November 2026. If he can get CAS to reduce it by 6 months or a year, he could feature the season after next.
However, despite his insistence that he didnât take anything knowingly, the positive A and B samples donât give him much grounds for appeal.
Romeo Lavia played well against Leeds on Sunday, and after the game spoke a little about what he and his teammates had considered âunacceptableâ about their recent showings.
Mykhailo Mudryk's ban could be halfway through if CAS rules favorably on his appeal.
Mykhailo Mudryk is a Chelsea winger, and the details of his ban have emerged from CAS, though specific reasons were not provided.
If CAS rejects Mykhailo Mudryk's appeal, he will continue to serve his ban without any reduction in its length.
