There's no guarantee the Vancouver Canucks would use the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft on Gavin McKenna.

They'd sure like the opportunity to make that decision for themselves.

The NHL Draft lottery is Tuesday night, and as the team that had the worst record in the entire league in 2025-26, the Canucks have the honor of having the best odds of landing the first pick.

The lottery exists so that it's no sure thing, though. The Canucks could end up lower on the board, too.

The Canucks have the best lottery odds by virtue of having the fewest points in the league this season.

That means they can have no worse than the No. 3 pick no matter what happens in the lottery.

The Canucks' odds of getting the No. 1 overall pick come in at 25.5%. For what it's worth, the teams second and third in the lottery order, and the Rangers, are at 13.5% and 11.5%.
