The Milwaukee Brewers are once again one of the top teams in the National League Central, though the issue this year is that it's a far more competitive division than before.
The Chicago Cubs are 28-16, while the St. Louis Cardinals are well above .500, and the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds aren't far behind. To retake the NL Central lead and differentiate themselves from their competition, the Brewers need to make a splash.

"If they aren't at least calling the Nationals about LF James Wood and/or SS CJ Abrams, they aren't doing their due diligence," Miller writes.
Adding Wood to the Brewers' offense would be an ideal trade pickup for Milwaukee this year. He's young, cheap, and the exact kind of slugger this team needs. He'd be a perfect trade target for the Brewers.
With Milwaukee trying to fight with the Cubs for the top spot in the NL Central, they need a bit more offensive firepower.
They are not a club that will spend big money on a player in free agency, but shipping off some prospects for Wood would actually make some sense.
Miller highlighted how the Brewers haven't gotten a single home run from any left fielder this season, and Wood would be an instant home-run threat if they could add him in a trade.
He hit 31 homers in 2025 in a breakout, All-Star season. And this year, he's already reached 12 homers through 44 games and 167 at-bats.
Wood has a .234 batting average, .897 OPS, and a 157 OPS+ to go with the most walks (37) in the NL and the most strikeouts in baseball with 66.
There might be some risk with how much it will cost to acquire the 23-year-old superstar, but for a team like the Brewers that has the roster to compete for a World Series, adding someone like Wood is the perfect upgrade to this roster.
