An under-the-radar return to the mound last week might be one of the best stories in the Milwaukee Brewers minor leagues this season.
Cameron Wagoner, an 11th-round draft pick out of Eastern Michigan in 2022, returned to the mound for the first time in more than 950 days, and he also happened to be throwing 98.7 mph. His appearance May 2 for the Class AA Biloxi Shuckers was followed by another 1⅓ innings May 6 and another inning May 10.
Brewers minor-league pitcher Cameron Wagoner, shown with the Timber Rattlers in 2023, made the long journey back to the field this month with Biloxi after dealing with arm injuries for more than two seasons.
Brewers minor-league pitcher Cameron Wagoner, shown with the Timber Rattlers in 2023, made the long journey back to the field this month with Biloxi after dealing with arm injuries for more than two seasons.
As the right-hander explained on the Biloxi Shuckers pregame show, he underwent Tommy John surgery after noticing problems in his elbow as he prepared for the 2024 season. After progressing back from the surgery, he developed fluid in his elbow that required another six months of rehab, followed by an elbow fracture that threw him into another rehab cycle.
Wagoner's previous professional appearance came Sept. 6, 2023, with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers; one day earlier, he had been named the Midwest League pitcher of the month for August after going 4-0 with a 1.37 earned run average in five games.
The Shuckers indicated he threw the ball 99 mph in his first outing, which featured a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. He appeared again May 6 for 1⅓ innings, allowing a homer and a walk and hitting two batters, but he did strike out another batter, too. On May 10, he allowed two hits but no runs with two strikeouts over an inning in a Shuckers loss.
Wagoner made 24 appearances with Wisconsin in his last pro season, largely as a starter.

"Lot of time in rehab, lot of friends made, lot of lessons learned, for sure," Wagoner said to Shuckers announcer Javik Blake on the pregame show. "It gave me time to understand my ability to throw now. Rather it used to be go in their blind, now I know what I can do best and how to execute my stuff every day."
Here's what happened last week
Class AAA Nashville (20-19) split six games with Louisville (Cincinnati).
Biloxi (14-18) muddled through a rainy week and lost three of five to the Columbus Clingstones (Atlanta).
Class High A Wisconsin (19-12) went 4-2 against Peoria (St. Louis), including a wild 15-8 game Sunday in which two players (Andrew Fischer and Eric Bitonti) had at least four hits each.
Class A Wilson (15-18) split six games against the Fayetteville Woodpeckers (Houston).
The rookie-level Arizona Complex League Brewers (3-3) went 2-3 against assorted teams.
Standout performance from Brewers 40-man roster players, including Cooper Pratt
Right-hander Craig Yoho worked 2⅓ innings in the past week, allowing just one hit with zero walks and three strikeouts. He notched a save and has a 2.08 ERA on the season.
Shortstop Cooper Pratt has turned the corner in terms of solid contact, and even though the results haven't consistently followed, he did have a home run and stole two bases. He has a .646 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) with two homers and 11 stolen bases.
Catcher Jeferson Quero had seven hits last week for Nashville, with three doubles, a homer and three RBIs.
Milwaukee Brewers infield prospect Andrew Fischer hits during spring training workouts Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at American Family Fields of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona.
Milwaukee Brewers infield prospect Andrew Fischer hits during spring training workouts Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at American Family Fields of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona.
Best performance this week from a Brewers top prospect: Andrew Fischer
Fischer had a monster Sunday on May 10, belting two homers with a triple and finishing a double shy of the cycle for the Timber Rattlers. He finished 4 for 6 with five RBIs, and he also had two doubles and a home run from games earlier in the week.
Fischer's .988 OPS is superb on the surface, with nine homers and 26 RBIs. The concern would be his strikeout tally, with 46 in 126 plate appearances (37%). He still has a .365 on-base percentage but will struggle to rise through the system without bringing his rate of strikeouts down.
How Brewers prospect Jesús Made fared last week
Made, on the doorstep of becoming the No. 1 prospect in baseball, had five hits in five games last week but also no extra-base hits and five strikeouts. He's had only two extra-base hits since April 21. Made also made a heads-up play by grabbing a bat out of the way at the last second as teammate Blake Burke came sliding home.
How Brewers prospect Jett Williams fared last week
Williams had six hits, including two doubles, over six games with a pair of stolen bases and three RBIs. After his slow start to the year, his OPS is up to .714.
Brewers names you might want to learn
The arrival of the ACL season means a first look at many system newcomers, and the Brewers saw a pair of strong debuts from their 19th- and 20th-round picks in the 2025 draft, both of whom signed for well over slot value.
Right-hander Chase Bentley out of Florida, whose signing for $757,000 was a new record for a 19th-round pick, allowed one hit in four innings with one walk and six strikeouts for the ACL Brewers on May 7. On May 4, Ma'Kale Holden – a 20th-round righty from Alabama who signed for $410,000 – allowed three hits in five innings in his pro debut, with one walk and six strikeouts.
Brewers minor-league highlights May 4-10
Andrew Fischer wasn't alone in belting two home runs May 11; Biloxi first baseman Blake Burke, the Brewers' minor league player of the month for April, hit one in each half of a doubleheader for the Shuckers and now has 11 for the year (.917 OPS). He reached double digits in fewer games than any other player in franchise history and now leads the Southern League again in homers.
Brock Wilken is still scuffling with a .179 average and .633 OPS at Nashville, but the third baseman is getting on base, now with a 27-game on-base streak for the Sounds. That perhaps belies an overall lack of production from the former first-round pick, but he did have two doubles and three RBIs last week.
Handelfry Encarnacion stayed hot for the Wilson Warbirds, with three hits including a homer May 10 to cap his week. He also homered earlier in the week and now has six for the year; the 18-year-old enters the new week with a .794 OPS.
Eric Bitonti, another top high school prospect taken in the same draft as Pratt, has been moving at a slower pace through the system but is now up to an .834 OPS at Wisconsin after a slow start. He closed the week with a wild day, going 5 for 5 with two doubles, a home run and three runs scored. He also had another double and stole two bases during the week.
Josh Adamczewski continued to rake at Wisconsin, with two homers, two doubles and four RBIs last week. The outfielder has a 1.007 OPS still for the Timber Rattlers. Teammate Marco Dinges is at .908 for an OPS with a double and homer among his six hits (and six RBIs) last week.
Luis Lara added to his career-best home run count with his seventh early in the week. The Nashville outfielder has 13 stolen bases, an on-base percentage over .400 and a .928 OPS.
Intriguing big-league option Eddys Leonard doubled in four straight games and also had a homer among his seven hits in five games last week. He has a 1.028 OPS, six homers and 23 RBIs, with a .425 OBP and 10 doubles in 116 at-bats.
Damon Keith shook off the effects of a hit-by-pitch in the hand earlier in the week and doubled in each of his final three games for Biloxi. The Southern League player of the week the week before, Keith is up to a 1.093 OPS.
Pedro Ibarguen hit homers in back-to-back games and also socked a double in five games for Wilson last week, bringing his OPS to .835. The 19-year-old outfielder also has five stolen bases.
Jonathan Rangel, a 19-year-old shortstop from Venezuela with the ACL team, has two homers and seven RBIs in his first 11 at-bats, and 2025 11th-round pick C.J. Hughes, a switch-hitting 18-year-old shortstop, has six hits in 14 at-bats, including a homer and triple, with three stolen bases. Alexander Frias, an 18-year-old outfielder, has gone 6 for 18 with two homers, a double and five RBIs, plus three stolen bases.
Josiah Ragsdale had a home run among his six hits last week, with four RBIs, four walks and five stolen bases at Wisconsin. The seventh-round pick in 2025, a 22-year-old outfielder from Boston College, has 14 stolen bases and an .861 OPS.
Timber Rattlers catcher Tayden Hall homered and doubled last week in four games against Peoria, with four RBIs and a stolen base. He owns a .930 OPS. The 23-year-old was a ninth-round pick in 2022.
Other players with two homers last week include Biloxi 23-year-old Eduardo Garcia, who hit both in one game, and Wilson's José Anderson, who hit bombs in back-to-back games and now has seven homers for the year (.655 OPS).
Pitching performances haven't been as notable as the hitters in the organization thus far, but a sampling from last week:
Tyson Hardin allowed just two earned runs and struck out six in five innings for Biloxi, with two walks and five hits May 5.
Robert Gasser allowed two earned runs on four hits in four innings for Nashville on May 6, with no walks and three strikeouts.
Carlos Carra, 19, allowed one earned run on two hits in six innings for Wilson on May 6, with two walks and six strikeouts.
Braylon Owens allowed three earned runs on four hits in five innings May 7 for Wisconsin, with two walks and six punchouts.
Jacob Morrison allowed just two hits and one unearned run in four innings May 8 for Wilson, with no walks and two strikeouts.
Highly intriguing 18-year-old Diustin Mayorquin had three innings of work May 9 at the Arizona Complex League, with one hit, no runs, no walks and six strikeouts.
Top pitching prospect Bishop Letson is still trying to find his best form, but he allowed two earned runs on three hits with two walks in four innings May 10 for Biloxi, with four strikeouts.
Coleman Crow allowed just three hits and one earned run in 5⅔ innings May 7 for Nashville, with two walks and four strikeouts.
Intriguing opposing player
Reds standout 24-year-old prospect Noelvi Marte has struggled to maintain his foothold in the big leagues, but he was pretty strong for the Louisville Bats in their series with Nashville this week, collecting back-to-back three-hit games and eight hits in the series. None, however, went for extra bases. He's got a .989 OPS with three homers in the minors this year, and it stands to reason he'll still be part of the Reds again at some point this season and, thus, part of the National League Central race. But his career OPS in the big leagues is only .680.
Brewers minor-league games May 11-17
The big-league Brewers have yet to face their chief NL Central rivals, the Chicago Cubs, this season, but Nashville returns home to face the Iowa Cubs for six games this week, and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers return to Appleton to face the South Bend Cubs. Yes, both of those teams are Cubs affiliates.
Biloxi hits the road to face the Montgomery Biscuits (Rays), the team currently leading a tightly packed South Division of the Southern League.
Wilson will begin the first of back-to-back weeks at its home stadium, starting with a meeting against the Hill City Howlers (Guardians).
The Arizona Brewers will be in action May 11, kicking off a week against various teams.
