On lap 194 near the start of Stage Three of Saturday’s NASCAR O’Reilly’s Auto Parts Series Bristol Race, the engine of Mason Maggio’s No. 91 Chevrolet Camaro expired, leading to a large engine fire.
Maggio was helped from the car by the infield safety crews without injury, but the failed engine brought out a red flag as the Coliseum around the half-mile track was engulfed with smoke, and fuel was spilled on the track.
Maggio was involved in a lap-one incident and was running off the lead lap at the time of the engine failure.
"I’m all good," Maggio told The CW Sports. "I knew there was going to be a lot of sparks under the lights here at Bristol, I just didn’t expect my car to be the one that imitates."

Maggio went on to assure his mother, watching at home, that he was okay after the fire.
"For all the family at home, for mom, I’m good," Maggio said to the camera.
This was Maggio's fifth start of the season and third DNF. The Mario Gosselin driver crashed on this year's opening lap of the season opener at Daytona and had an engine failure at Atlanta the following week.
The race resumed with Kyle Larson leading over last week’s race winner, William Sawalich. Larson swept the stages, mirroring his performance in last year’s April race, which he went on to win.
