J.K. Dobbins is set to lead the Denver Broncos' backfield in 2026.
The Denver Broncos hold seven picks in the upcoming NFL draft.
George Paton expressed satisfaction with the current running back depth but indicated the team is always looking to add more talent.
The Denver Broncos are actively seeking to enhance their running back roster during and after the upcoming NFL draft, despite having a solid current lineup led by J.K. Dobbins and RJ Harvey. General manager George Paton emphasized the team's ongoing evaluation of potential additions.
The Denver Broncos made it a priority to re-sign J.K. Dobbins during NFL free agency, and Dobbins is now set to lead the team's backfield again in 2026, joined by second-year running back RJ Harvey.
Speaking at the NFL's annual league meeting in Arizona last week, Broncos general manager George Paton said he likes the current running back depth, but the team is always looking to add more. Denver holds seven picks in this month's NFL draft, and they will fill out the roster with college free agent signings after the draft.
āWe like the backs," Payton said in late March. "RJ is just going to keep getting better. What did he have, 12 touchdowns? Heās an explosive player and an explosive receiver out of the backfield. [Heās] a matchup problem. He is going to get better as a runner. He got better as the year went on.
"Then you have [Tyler] Badie, and you have Jaleel [McLaughlin] and we have Cody Schrader, who we like. We are going to be looking in the draft, and we are going to be looking after the draft. We are always looking. We didnāt sign J.K. until like May or June last year. We feel good with where we are at right now. Last year at this time, we didnāt have J.K. and we didnāt have RJ, and we were OK. Weāre going to be fine.ā
The Broncos signed Dobbins to a one-year deal last June, well after the draft. The team seems unlikely to sign another high-profile free agent this summer, but they could draft a running back, and the team will likely add at least one undrafted running back as well. Dobbins and Harvey are a capable one-two punch when healthy, but Denver could use more long-term depth and competition.
