The Denver Broncos won't sign veteran quarterback Nathan Peterman after he had a tryout at rookie minicamp over the weekend, according to a report from KUSA-TV's Mike Klis.
It appears that Peterman (32) was the very definition of a camp arm, as Denver brought in the veteran quarterback to give the offense a smooth operation at rookie camp.
âItâs always helpful if you can get a veteran because you donât know how itâs going to be for the rookie," Broncos coach Sean Payton said on Saturday.
Payton has first-hand experience of struggling to break a huddle as a rookie quarterback.
"When you get a veteran, if youâre able to, it ensures that thereâs going to be a steady flow to practice because you donât know if youâre going to have freaking Sean Payton over here that canât break the huddle and figure out what formation is which," Payton said. "Dead serious, it can slow down your whole practice if you canât get the quarterback-center exchange, if you canât call the play in the huddle. So heâs someone thatâs had a ton of experience at that.â
Peterman has spent time with five NFL teams, dressing for 15 games over six seasons. He handled his role well at rookie minicamp, but Peterman won't be signed by the Broncos.
