The Denver Broncos came so close to making the Super Bowl this past season, but came up just short thanks to some incredibly terrible luck with Bo Nix's injury.
But for the 2026 season, the offense is mostly the same. That is, other than the blockbuster addition of Jaylen Waddle. He's instantly No. 1 on the depth chart, with Courtland Sutton the No. 2 receiver.
After Waddle and Sutton, who's next for Denver's WR room? Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report projected a new WR3 in Denver that makes perfect sense for Nix.
"WR: Courtland Sutton, Jaylen Waddle, Troy Franklin," Davenport projected. The projected WR3 is Franklin.
This projection makes perfect sense for the Broncos and Nix. Not only is Franklin likely their third-best WR, but he's a great fit with Nix in the offense.
The projected WR3 for the Denver Broncos is a player identified by Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report, who fits well with Bo Nix.
Jaylen Waddle's addition elevates him to the No. 1 receiver position, significantly enhancing the Broncos' offensive capabilities for the upcoming season.
Bo Nix's injury was a major factor that contributed to the Broncos falling short of making the Super Bowl last season.

While Franklin is a perfect WR3 for Denver's offense, who were the other options? Pat Bryant and Marvin Mims were the two other candidates, each being decent options worthy of a WR3 spot.
But, with Bryant's traits overlapping with Sutton, and Mims more of a gadget receiver and returner, Franklin is the best wide receiver the Broncos could start behind Sutton and Waddle.
Franklin went to Oregon with Nix, so there's a connection there already that alone would make him a good fit as the third receiver in this offense.
But, statistically, he's the best option as well. In 2025, Franklin saw 104 targets, the second-most of any Denver receiving option. He caught 65 passes for 709 yards and six touchdowns.
Only Sutton, who caught 74 of 124 targets for 1,017 yards and seven touchdowns, was more productive than Franklin last year.
There's no question of who on the Broncos depth chart at wide receiver should be the WR3 this upcoming season. It should be Franklin, even with how good Bryant looked at the end of the season and how explosive Mims has been at times.
