During the mayhem of the NFL draft last week, a report about Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix's ankle re-check flew a bit under the radar.
Nix had an in-person visit with Dr. Waldrop, who performed the QB's ankle surgery in January. During his post-draft press conference, coach Sean Payton said it was a scheduled recheck, and he did not indicate that anything had changed with the QB's recovery timeline.
"He had a recheck that was scheduled," Payton said. "Heās doing great. Weāre excited about his progress. Nothing [new] to report. These guys will be coming in here. Heās here. A number of these guys are coming in the building.
"Guys will be working on Monday [May 4] and then probably more of a team meeting [the] next week. Then certainly youāve seen the schedule. Probably in the prior two years, we would have been out on the field and you guys would have been out there with us in May. Itās kicked back a little, so that will take place in June.ā
However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Nix had a "successful and anticipated follow-up clean-up procedure" with Dr. Waldrop. Despite the procedure being "anticipated," Rapoport has moved Nix's targeted return date back to training camp. The Broncos had previously said Nix would be ready for the start of the offseason program. Rapoport indicated the team will take it "" with Nix this spring.
