The Denver Broncos added another receiving weapon for quarterback Bo Nix when they used a fifth-round pick in last month's NFL draft to select NC State tight end Justin Joly.
āI always feel like my hands work really well, and Iām a security blanket for my quarterback," Joly said during his introductory conference call after being drafted by Denver. "When you have a great quarterback like Bo Nix, you live life a little bit easier."
Joly (6-3, 241 pounds) spent two seasons at UConn before transferring to the Wolfpack ahead of the 2024 season. Over the last two years, the 21-year-old tight end totaled 92 receptions for 1,150 yards and 11 touchdowns in 25 games. He was asked during his conference call what he has learned to expect from Nix in the NFL.
āHonestly, just leadership and knowing what youāre doing all the time," Joly said. "Heās such a smart quarterback, and I love having the opportunity to see him play for the Broncos now. Itās just being reliable and be there when he needs you. Thatās really what it is, whatever opportunities I might get, make the most of it because Iām not doing it for myself ā Iām doing it for my team as well.ā
Joly will hit the field for rookie minicamp this weekend (May 8-10), but he might not get to work with Nix much before training camp later this summer. Whenever they do link up, Nix and Joly will look to form a dynamic QB-TE duo in coach Sean Payton's offense.
