The Cleveland Browns selected offensive tackle Spencer Fano with the ninth overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft after trading down. They also considered wide receiver Jordyn Tyson and offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa before making their choice.
The Cleveland Browns left the 2026 NFL Draft with a respected haul of talent, so much so that analysts are praising the work they did. That haul started with Utah offensive tackle Spencer Fano, who was selected ninth overall after the team traded down three slots and pocketed two extra picks in the process.
However, on ESPN's "The Pick is In," they gave us an inside peek into the Browns' draft room. And doing so gave us insight into who the Browns were considering when they came on the clock with the sixth overall pick before trading out.
Before trading out, Fano was one of the three players discussed by the Browns. The other two? Eighth overall pick and now New Orleans Saints wide receiver Jordyn Tyson, and tenth overall pick and now New York Giants offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa.
Ultimately, the Browns still selected Fano with the ninth overall pick after the trade down with the Chiefs. This means there was a final conversation between Fano and Mauigoa with the Browns on the clock and with Tyson already off the board. Had the Browns lacked a trade partner, however, it would have been interesting to see if they would have opted for Tyson over Fano.
