The Cleveland Browns gave youngster Dillon Gabriel an opportunity to start a year ago. Unfortunately, the left-handed quarterback couldn't get the job done. It isn't like anybody else came in and did what was needed at the position, but Gabriel struggled a good bit, and as a result, some don't believe he can be a starting quarterback in this league.
With that in mind, it would be nice to hear that Gabriel is in the building and doing what's needed. However, ahead of the first workouts of the year, it was reported by The Athletic’s Zac Jackson that Todd Monken had not seen Gabriel up to this point.
“Monken said he has not seen Dillon Gabriel in the building to this point, which likely means Gabriel has not spent the offseason in Cleveland. All three quarterbacks are expected to be in attendance next week.”
I don't know how much of an issue this is and don't want to overstate it, as Gabriel can obviously be working hard somewhere else. However, considering what we saw him do a year ago, it would have been nice to hear that he was in the building and ready to go.
When you’re competing for a role, especially in a wide-open quarterback room, every day counts.
