Rangers' heart questioned as title hopes all but ended at Tynecastle
Rangers' title aspirations fade with a 2-1 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle.
The Cleveland Browns selected quarterback Taylen Green from Arkansas in the sixth round of the NFL draft with pick #182, despite not needing a quarterback. This pick came after trading defensive tackle Jowon Briggs to the New York Jets.
When the Cleveland Browns came into this yearâs NFL draft, there were certain positions of need that had to be addressed: offensive tackle, receiver, safety, and offensive guard.
Quarterback just wasnât on the list. A third cover cornerback would be more useful than another signal-caller. Yet, Cleveland GM Andrew Berry took QB Taylen Green out of Arkansas in the sixth round with pick #182, one of the most exciting players in this yearâs draft class. This was the slot the Browns got when DT Jowon Briggs was sent to the New York Jets last year.

The Browns already had a full QB room with veteran Deshaun Watson, third-round draft pick Dillon Gabriel, and one of last yearâs most talked-about rookies in Shedeur Sanders, who could be a superstar in waiting or a developmental guy who needs more tutelage.

Greenâs fiancĂ©e is Analisse Batista, who is a member of the womenâs track & field team at Arkansas.
Who is Green? He is expected to sign a four-year contract worth approximately $4.58 million. Whatâs his story?
Green grew up in Lewisville, Texas, and attended Lewisville High School.
His parents are Quinton and Latrice Green, who live in Allen, Texas. Quinton is a former college basketball player at Collin College. He has two sisters. Nyah Green is a basketball star and earned McDonaldâs All-American status, and was named Co-MVP of District 9-6A. She then accepted a scholarship at Duke as the nationâs third-best guard. His other sister is Keira.
Green himself grew up playing basketball, but when he became a junior in high school, his focus shifted to football and track, where he was a long jumper. He set the school record for the long jump with a leap of 23â- 5â, which still stands. He also participated in the triple jump (44â-3.5â) and the 400-meters (55.02 seconds), which is a one-lap, high-intensity track sprint that demands immense speed endurance.
Both track and basketball aided in his future at quarterback. His broad jump, 40 time, and vertical jump set Combine records for the quarterback position.
As a junior, he had 164 completions on 273 attempts for 2,217 yards with 25 touchdowns and a 60.1% completion ratio. In his senior year, he was elected captain and had 156 completions on 242 attempts for 2,431 yards with 22 touchdowns and a 64.5% completion ratio. For his high school career, he had 188 carries for 1,098 rushing yards with a 5.8 average yards per carry and scored 19 TDs.
High School accolades:
The colleges that recruited him were Boise State, San Diego State, Illinois State, Wyoming, Central Michigan, Marshall, UTEP, Missouri State, New Mexico State, Texas Southern, Baylor, Louisville, and Southern Miss.
Green chose Boise State and, like most incoming freshmen, redshirted in 2021. In his two years, he played in all 26 games with 287 completions on 483 attempts for 3,794 yards and 25 TDs and 15 picks with a 59.4% completion ratio. He also rushed 164 times for 1,026 yards with an additional 19 touchdowns.
Along this journey, Boise State was using a two-quarterback system, which Green was not in favor of. He also went through a tumultuous 2023 season marked by a mid-season head coaching change with the firing of head coach Andy Avalos, and decided he needed a change. He then entered the transfer portal and transferred to Arkansas.
Green busted out at Arkansas and was one of the most productive quarterbacks in college football. He ranked #3 in the SEC in total passing yards per game (290.9). Over these two seasons, he ranked #1 in the FBS with 315 plays of 10-plus yards and 109 plays of 20-plus yards.
Then in 2025, he made Arkansas school history when he became the first player to record 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in a single game.
While at Arkansas, Green tossed 707 passing attempts with 428 completions for 5,868 yards with 34 TDs against 20 picks. His completion ratio was 60.5%. He rushed for 1,379 yards on 295 attempts with 16 rushing TDs.
As a college athlete, he scored an amazing 35 rushing touchdowns.

In the post-draft interview session, head coach Todd Monken was asked if Green was going to move to the receiver room. Monken refused to discuss this and passed on answering. Green is a superior runner. He has great moves and is able to juke out defenders. He is blessed with exceptional speed and runs like a gazelle. What he does not possess is accuracy when he throws. At 6â-6â and a beefy 235 pounds, he could transition smoothly to either the tight end room or become a receiver. His vertical jump was 43 œâ, which is perfect for a pass catcher. His intermediate throwing is very inconsistent and inaccurate. Why would he languish as QB4 when he could become a valuable weapon shagging balls on the offense?
Green is known for being a dual-threat quarterback who runs well but needs help with his passing abilities. He recorded a 4.36 in the 40 and had an astounding 43.5-inch vertical jump at the Combine. All of this showed he is an incredible athlete. He has natural arm talent on vertical routes. Capable of extending drives with his legs with deep ball accuracy. There are so many peaks and valleys with Green. Monken sees a Lamar Jackson-type athlete in Green if only he can figure out how to get some accuracy from his arm because this kid has the legs and the moves.
College accolades:
Green is a turnover machine. His short game works, but he canât seem to hit targets in the intermediate portion of the field. Post-snap processing against zone defense is a work in progress. His frame looks more like a basketball player. At no time is Green viewed as an accurate passer. At the Senior Bowl this year, he was applauded for his running skills and criticized for being a mediocre to poor passer. He tends to retreat into the pocket rather than climb when it is apparent that a collapse is about to happen.
