The Cleveland Browns quarterback battle is set to be one that will capture the attention not just of Browns fans but also of NFL fans.
Will it be Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson, or Dillon Gabriel who will be Todd Monken's starter in Week 1?
As the Browns completed their three-day voluntary offseason workouts, there was some thought that the pecking order had already been established.
But for Monken, it's a fluid situation with all three players.
“It’s always changing based on what you see, I don’t have a history with any of our players, they’re all external to me,” Monken said on The Ken Carman Show on 92.3 The Fan. “The point is what I’ve seen after three days, okay that gives us a little of a 40,000-foot view of where we’re at, but that can change once we get back on the field for four weeks at the end of the spring. We’ll have a better idea then."
The candidates for the starting quarterback position are Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson, and Dillon Gabriel.
Todd Monken offered a superb perspective on the quarterback battle, emphasizing the competition among the players.
The announcement for the starting quarterback for Week 1 is expected to come after the team's offseason workouts and training camp.

Perhaps the best thing about the arrival of Monken is that he doesn't have a dog in this fight. As he said, it's all external. Whereas if a coach had been promoted from within, that person might already be higher on one player instead of the other two.
So, this will be based on what Monken sees, and also which quarterback takes their chances when OTAs and training camp begin.
But the clock is ticking because whoever is the starter has to get valuable reps in at training camp to prepare for the regular season.
Right now, it's an open competition, but Monken and the Browns know that the time to make a decision is fast approaching.
