The Cleveland Browns are likely moving on from quarterback Dillon Gabriel, who struggled to secure a starting position. A proposed trade to the Las Vegas Raiders raises questions, as the Raiders already have multiple quarterbacks on their roster.

It's all but certain that the Cleveland Browns will have to move on from a quarterback over the next few months, and the most obvious answer to that is Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel wasn't bad during his time with the Browns as a starter, but certainly wasn't good enough to continue starting and warrant playing time moving forward.
That doesn't mean he doesn't have a future in the NFL, but it doesn't seem likely that it will be in Cleveland. If anything, there's a better chance that none of the quarterbacks on the Browns' current roster have a future with this organization, except perhaps Shedeur Sanders.
Looking for ways to trim the quarterback room, a recent trade idea was proposed: sending him to the Las Vegas Raiders. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, though, as the Raiders are expected to add Fernando Mendoza and already landed Kirk Cousins.
Raiders Get: Gabriel
Browns Get: 2027 5th Round Pick, 2027 Conditional 7th Round Pick (6th if 3+ Games Started, 5th in 5+ Games Started)
“The Browns have a quarterback surplus. Gabriel is too young and promising to leave as the QB3. He deserves better. The Browns can easily trade him away for a couple of draft picks, low rounds, but draft picks indeed. Todd Monken begins to remodel this poor Browns team,” Thomas Carelli of SI wrote.
The Browns are looking to trim their quarterback room, and Gabriel's performance did not justify his continued role as a starter.
The trade proposal suggests that Gabriel may have a future in the NFL, but it is uncertain given the Raiders' crowded quarterback situation.
The Raiders currently have Kirk Cousins and are expected to add Fernando Mendoza, indicating they may not need another quarterback like Gabriel.

If the Browns could get back a fifth-round pick for Gabriel, it seems smart to just make the trade now and go with it. It was already questionable when they drafted him in the third round, so admitting defeat and getting something in return could be a wise decision.
