Frye received an offer from Illinois State five days ago. He had previously been offered by Bowling Green, Kent State, Miami (Ohio) and Toledo.
On Brownsburgās 6A state championship team two years ago, Frye completed 65% of his passes for 2,445 yards and 23 touchdowns. Last season as a junior, he passed for 2,505 yards and 29 TDs for the 14-0 Bulldogs.
"I feel like there were three pretty big things that impacted my decision," Frye said. "Just growing up in the Midwest heartland, I wanted to play for a school that represented those values and that really made it feel like home. Secondarily, the coaches and I really hit it off right away with our personalities and how we process the game. Lastly, having played under a super successful staff and a winning program at Brownsburg was something that I wanted to stay in. The staff and program at Illinois State definitely brought that to the table and that was another huge thing, as I want to continue playing for championships."
Illinois State played for the FCS national championship last season, dropping a 35-34 overtime heartbreaker to Montana State in the title game. The Redbirds are coached by Brock Spack, who was previously a longtime defensive coordinator at Purdue.
