The Boston Bruins extended its first-round Stanley Cup Playoff series against the Buffalo Sabres.
Boston lost both games at home to go down 3-1 in the series, and in Game 5, the Bruins played much better hockey. After going down 1-0 after the first period, Elias Lindholm tied it up midway through the second, and that was the last goal in regulation.
In overtime, David Pastrnak had a breakaway and deked the puck around Alex Lyon’s left pad for a goal and the win. It was a great performance from the Bruins, and head coach Marco Sturm was pleased with how his team played.
“It’s just the character we have in this locker room,” Sturm said postgame on Tuesday. “It’s amazing. No surprise for me, though. We couldn’t wait to get out there today. Guys were dialed in. Our mindset was just there.
“Overall, this team never quits and always finds a way to bounce back. That’s for me, it’s character, it’s attitude, just being there for each other. I think that’s the biggest thing of what we created this year.”

With the win, the Bruins kept the series alive and forced a Game 6 at home in Boston on Friday night. After losing both games at home, Lindholm expects the team to play much better in front of the Bruins faithful.
“They’re going to see a different Boston Bruins at home,” Lindholm said. “We’re going to play the game we’ve been playing here on the road. Take that home. We love playing in front of our fans. It’s gonna be a real tough game for Buffalo to try to close out the series. We’re going to make it hard on them.”
Game 6 is set for Friday night at 7:30 p.m. ET at TD Garden in Boston.
