The Boston Bruins hired Marco Sturm as their new head coach this season, and in his first year on the job, he led the team to a playoff berth.
Boston wasn’t projected to make the playoffs this season, but the Bruins exceeded expectations and reached 100 points in Sturm’s first season. It was a good job done by Sturm, and Bruins President Cam Neely was ecstatic with the job Sturm did.
“I think he did a remarkable job, to be honest with you,” Neely said on Wednesday. "It’s not an easy job to be a head coach in the National Hockey League, especially in a market like ours. But he had played here, so he knew what the expectations were. Until you go through it, you don’t really know what you’re going through.”
Bruins general manager Don Sweeney, meanwhile, said he was ‘proud’ of Sturm and the job the entire coaching staff did this season.
“The coaches obviously did a really, really commendable job,” Sweeney said. “Really proud of Marco in terms of all the things he was faced with, challenges and realizing how much greater is on his plate as a head coach. And he navigated it pretty well.”
The Bruins front office believes Sturm will also only improve and learn from this season, as he got to coach playoff hockey.
With that, Boston will enter the 2026-27 NHL season with plenty of expectations to not just make the playoffs, but go on a deep run.
