BRIGHTON â The Boston Bruins were without Viktor Arvidsson at practice on Thursday as his status for Game 6 remains unlikely.
Arvidsson left Game 4 after taking a hit from Mattias Samuelsson. The TNT broadcast reported that it was a shoulder injury, while the Bruins ruled him out with an upper-body injury.
Arvidsson did not travel with the team to Buffalo for Game 5.
Without a staple of the Bruinsâ second line, Marco Sturm shook up the top three forward lines; he kept those line combinations together at practice on Thursday.
Sturm split Arvidssonâs two remaining linemates, playing Pavel Zacha on the top line with Marat Khusnutdinov and David Pastrnak. Casey Mittelstadt was on the second line with Elias Lindholm and Morgan Geekie.
Before the Bruins left Buffalo, Sturm said it was going to be hard to get Arvidsson into the lineup, even though he is day-to-day.
âArvyâs Arvy, first of all. He wants to play. Very frustrated. Wants to be a big part of it,â Sturm said. âI think sometimes thereâs injuries where it allows you to play, or at least thereâs a chance. With Arvy, there isnât.â

Sturm and the Bruins do not expect Arvidsson to be available for Game 6, the second straight elimination game that the 33-year-old will miss.
âI donât think so. Maybe thereâs a miracle overnight, but we are planning not to play [him],â Sturm said after practice.
Arvidsson brings 91 games of playoff experience to the Bruinsâ lineup, the third-most on the team. The Bruinsâ backs are up against the wall; losing an experienced veteran does not help against a less experienced Sabres team.
The expectation is for Sturm to roll the same forward lines as Game 5, including the third line of Alex Steeves, Fraser Minten, and Mikey Eyssimont.
âThose guys, they should be hungry, they should be full of energy, and I think thatâs exactly what they showed me for the rest of the game,â said Sturm. âI trust those guys, and as long as they give me that energy, Iâm fine with it.â
Even with the lineup changes, Marco Sturm still has a sense of the teamâs pulse. He said he knew that playing to their identity would keep them in Game 5, and he expects the same for Game 6.
âFor me, the biggest thing is weâre against the wall,â he said. âSo, [it] couldâve gone either way. I donât know if the guys maybe cramp up, but they didnât. Theyâre proud guys. They came out on fire, I thought, all game long, and they gave us the best. I always, as a coach, have a better feeling when we start out well. Because then I know we are in this, instead of waiting and waiting and waiting.â
With their backs against the wall, the Bruins are looking to force a winner-takes-all Game 7. They will have to beat the Sabres Friday night (7:30 PM) at the TD Garden. The Sabres lead the best-of-seven series, 3-2.
