It feels like just yesterday the Boston Bruins' season ended at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Still, the team is well represented at the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship.
There are eight current Bruins who went to the tournament, including rookies James Hagens and Fraser Minten.
Hagens is, of course, representing the reigning champions, the United States of America, alongside teammates Mason Lohrei and Alex Steeves. Whereas his playoff linemate Minten is the only Bruin skating for Team Canada in the two-week tournament.
Minten made his presence known immediately with an impressive outing in the first game of the event against Sweden on Friday night.
Minten patrolled center ice, winning 58.3% of his faceoffs and playing more than 14 minutes of ice time. The Bruins' rookie also tallied two assists on his way to being named the Player of the Game.
Center is the one position that Bruins president Cam Neely says the team will be really targeting this offseason. If the 21-year-old can continue to make strides over the offseason, perhaps Neely won't have to look too far.
