The Philadelphia Flyers need a Boston Bruins win on Sunday. Boston is taking on the Columbus Blue Jackets, who have been a thorn in the side of the Flyers. Philadelphia is actively trying to clinch a playoff position.
The Flyers could do so as early as Monday with a win against the Carolina Hurricanes. However, a Blue Jackets win against the Bruins would stop that from happening. If Columbus wins, it pushes the Flyersâ clinching scenario to Tuesdayâs Game 82 against the Montreal Canadiens.
That said, there is bad news for Philadelphia and its faithful. The Bruins are holding four players out of their lineup.
Bruinsâ head coach Marco Strum is keeping Victor Arvidsson, Hampus Lindholm, Pavel Zacha, and Charlie McAvoy out of the lineup against the Blue Jackets. That is four everyday players being held out of the lineup for the Bruins in a game where, quite frankly, if everyone is playing, they are the far better team.
However, the Bruins are not playing at full strength, which may help the Blue Jackets get a win that keeps their postseason aspirations alive.
As for the Bruins, like the Penguins a day earlier, they have little to play for with their ticket punched. There is no spot to move ahead of the Wild Card. That said, now is the time to rest players to get them as close to 100% before the postseason begins.
Itâs unfortunate for the Flyers. Itâs the second day in a row that they need wins from teams resting players against Metropolitan teams fighting for the last playoff spot.
On the flip side, James Hagens is expected to make his NHL debut with the Bruins on Sunday. Maybe that is the jolt they need to come away with the big win. Are the Flyers in trouble?

The Bruins are scratching four everyday players, although their names were not specified.
A Bruins win would allow the Flyers to potentially clinch a playoff spot as early as Monday, depending on their own game results.
If the Blue Jackets win, it delays the Flyers' playoff clinching scenario to Tuesday's game against the Montreal Canadiens.
