Bryson DeChambeau withdraws from final round of LIV Mexico because of a wrist injury

LIV Golf has had the wildest of weeks in Mexico City, but the league has made it to the final round. However, it made it to the final day at Chapultepec Golf Club without its top draw, Bryson DeChambeau.

The two-time major champ announced Sunday that he wouldn’t be playing in the final round because of a wrist injury that he noticed Saturday. He’ll get it evaluated and believes he’ll be ready to go when the league returns to action in two weeks in Washington, D.C.

“I experienced some discomfort in my wrist during yesterday’s round and have decided to withdraw from the final round of LIV Golf Mexico City to prevent further injury,” he wrote on social media. “Not how I want ed this week to go but wishing the Crushers a strong finish. I’m going to take a few days to get evaluated and hope to be ready for LIV Golf Virginia.”

DeChambeau had won the last two LIV Golf events, in Singapore and South Africa respectively. Which is why he was so disappointed to miss the cut last week at the Masters after shooting 76-74.

This week in Mexico City, he continued to be out of sorts, shooting 71-71-73 for a two-over total which was 16 shoots behind leader Jon Rahm.

On Tuesday reports started to leak saying Saudi Arabia’s PIF was likely not going to fund LIV Golf for the rest of the year, sending the league scrambling to control the message. They never said reports were false and LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil actually said in an interview that they were funded through the end of the year, but that interview was quickly scrubbed from all social media channels.

A day later LIV Golf was sued by its predecessor, the Premier Golf League, accusing them of stealing their 54-hole, team concept. DeChambeau was also caught on camera during the second round roasting course conditions.
