Not many in NFL circles envisioned Rueben Bain Jr. falling out of the top 10 in the NFL Draft, and fewer thought that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would be in a position to draft him at No. 15.
But they were.
Now, Bain Jr. comes to a Todd Bowles defense desperate to make the sort of impact that fans have wanted to see from the defense for years, and that is to go collect quarterbacks' souls.
Tampa Bay needed more pass-rush juice, and they got it in Bain. Bowles detailed whatĀ Bain will bring to the defense.
"He can do it all," Bowles said. "He can do it all and he shows that up and down the line of scrimmage. He plays with a mentality -- a no-losing mentality -- at all times. He fights and he plays with the right kind of attitude and mentality that we're trying to bring to this team."

One of the biggest areas of need for the Bucs was adding an edge to help bring some pressure, something that was severely lacking last season.
With Bain, you could make the case Tampa Bay got the best pure pass rusher in the draft, and he fell into their laps at No. 15.
Bain in a Bowles defense makes for an interesting thought, with the head coach under pressure to deliver results after a poor 2025 season.
And with Bain on the roster, Tampa Bay's defense just got a little bit scarier.
The Buccaneers drafted Rueben Bain Jr. at No. 15 because they needed more pass-rush capability, and Bain was available despite expectations he would go earlier.
