The Milwaukee Bucks are not wasting time in their search for a head coach. Team owners Wes Edens and Jimmy Haslam, along with general manager Jon Horst, reportedly traveled to Memphis early last week to sit down with Taylor Jenkins, according to a Monday report from The Athletic's Eric Nehm and Sam Amick.
No deal is in place, and contract figures have not come up yet. Another meeting is expected soon.
Edens and Haslam did not bring Jenkins to Milwaukee for a formal interview. They went to him. Given where Jenkins sits in this market right now.
Jenkins, 41, spent six seasons in Memphis before the Grizzlies let him go with nine games left in the regular season this past February.
He went 250-214, made the playoffs four times, and had the team in the second round in 2021-22 after winning 56 games. He did not get to coach that final playoff run, which still stings a little when you look back at it.
He has been connected to Orlando if the Magic decide to move on from Jamahl Mosley, and that would be a reasonable landing spot for him too. The Bucks need this search to keep moving because more vacancies opening up will only keep strengthening Jenkins' hand.
Doc Rivers stepped down following a 32-50 finish, and GM Jon Horst publicly acknowledged the franchise has not decided whether to keep Giannis Antetokounmpo or trade him.
