The Bucs are projected to select quarterback Drew Mestemaker in the 2027 NFL Draft, according to a recent mock draft. This comes as speculation grows about the team's future direction and potential roster changes.

The 2027 NFL Draft will take place in Washington, D.C. next year. In that draft, the Bucs still have their first-round pick, but a lot could happen in the next 12 months. Before then, though, there will be plenty of speculation and buildup for the team and who they may add to the roster through the draft in a class that many are saying could be one of generational wealth.
CBS Sports' Ryan Wilson recently released the latest way-too-early 2027 NFL mock draft of the cycle, which has the team going offense in a direction we have not seen yet: quarterback. He is projecting them to land Oklahoma State quarterback Drew Mestemaker.
Wilson explains the Mestemaker pick, writing, "Mestemaker is a big-armed QB who layers the ball well on downfield throws but can also step on it when he needs to fit it in a tight window. He shows the ability to get through his reads while standing tall in the pocket, though he'll need to limit his interceptions (he had 11 in '25), some of which came on poor decisions, or throws in which he didn't set his feet. He'll see a step up in competition going from North Texas to Oklahoma State, and if he makes that jump, he'll be a name to watch in the fall."
Mestemaker is a unique prospect who has skyrocketed over the last year. After not starting in high school, his lone year as a starter at North Texas had him become one of the top passers in college football. He now has a chance to capitalize on that momentum at Oklahoma State in front of stiffer competition.
