Whitefish Bulldogs defeated Polson Pirates 6-1 in a Northwest A baseball game, with Tait Orme pitching five shutout innings and Carter Godsey contributing a two-run single. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the sixth inning to secure their victory.
POLSON — Tait Orme threw five innings of shutout ball, Carter Godsey hit a two-run single in the fourth inning and Whitefish went on to down Polson 6-1 in a Northwest A baseball showdown Tuesday at O’Malley Field.
Orme scattered four hits and a walk for the Bulldogs (3-1), striking out five. He left with a 3-0 lead thanks to Godsey’s single and Drew Queen’s RBI grounder in the third inning.
Whitefish left the bases loaded in the fifth, then broke the game open with three runs in the sixth: Polson pitchers issued four walks around an RBI groundout by Reyd Hobart. A bases-loaded free pass issued to Orme drove in Whitefish’s fifth run; a balk made it 6-0.
Reed Hoyer clubbed a double for the Bulldogs.
The Pirates (2-4) got a run back in the sixth thanks to a hit batter, a single, a walk and Brayson DuMont’s RBI groundout. Reliever Cullen Wallace got a groundout to end that threat, then worked around another walk, single and hit batter in the seventh. A double play started by Godsey at short helped keep Polson at bay.
Cole Wadsworth threw 4 2-3 innings for the Pirates, allowing three hits, three walks and two earned runs. He fanned three. Polson outhit Whitefish, 6-3.
Tait Orme pitched five shutout innings, while Carter Godsey had a key two-run single in the fourth inning.
The final score was Whitefish Bulldogs 6, Polson Pirates 1.
Whitefish scored their runs through a combination of hits, walks, and an RBI groundout, including three runs in the sixth inning.
