Burnley part ways with Scott Parker following Premier League relegation

Burnley have confirmed that head coach Scott Parker has left the club by mutual consent following their relegation from the Premier League.

The decision comes just days after Burnley’s drop to the Championship was mathematically confirmed after defeat to Manchester City.

Burnley sit well adrift of safety with only a handful of matches remaining, leaving no route back to survival this season.

The club have now acted swiftly to make a change, bringing an end to Parker’s tenure less than two years after his appointment.

Assistant coach Mike Jackson will take interim charge for the remaining fixtures of the campaign.

Jackson previously oversaw Burnley on a temporary basis during the 2021-22 season and will now be tasked with guiding them through the final weeks.

Parker’s departure follows a difficult Premier League return that failed to build on last season’s promotion success.

He had led Burnley back to the top flight with an impressive Championship campaign, securing second place with a strong defensive record.

That promotion-winning season saw Burnley concede just 16 goals across 46 league matches, underlining Parker’s structured approach.

However, those defensive foundations did not translate at Premier League level, where Burnley have struggled throughout the campaign.

The Clarets have conceded heavily and have found wins difficult to come by, with form deteriorating significantly in the second half of the season.

Parker acknowledged the timing of the decision in a statement released by the club, indicating that both parties agreed a change was necessary.

He reflected positively on his time at Burnley, particularly the promotion campaign that returned them to the Premier League.
