Immediately following this past weekend’s cruiserweight title fight between David Benavidez and Zurdo Ramirez, Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya gave his immediate reaction to the fight and the card as a whole, which he says was a massive success — even if his fight did fall short in the main event.
“Look, I mean that’s the way I called it, is the buzzsaw of Benavidez, the punches in bunches. And the only shot Zurdo had was to throw a shot right in the center. So, obviously the speed was too much, Benavidez was too much, The Monster’s here for a long time, so very proud of him. But the whole night, top to bottom, was excellent. Probably one of the best cards we’ve ever put.”
“He’s got many options, so I think right now he is the man at that weight class. So whoever’s going to fight him has to wait in line because there’s several fighters like Bivol, like all the top, top guys including all the world champions. But Benavidez right now is the man.”
“We’re positioning Bek The Bully. He’s #1 mandatory. He’s right there knocking on everybody’s door so The Bully’s next in line. Jaime Munguia, can we see that next? We’ll have to wait and see.”
Oscar De La Hoya described Benavidez as a 'buzzsaw' and praised his speed and performance in the fight.
