Caernarfon's Welsh Cup win 'unbelievable achievement'

Caernarfon Town manager Richard Davies has described the club's Welsh Cup triumph as an "unbelievable achievement".

The Canaries secured the Welsh Cup for the first time in their history with a 3-0 win over north Wales rivals Flint Town United in the final at Newport's Rodney Parade.

Davies' side have also secured their place in next season's Europa League qualifiers - their second European appearance in three seasons.

"Just a pinch me moment to put Caernarfon's name among them that have won the cup," Davies told BBC Radio Wales Breakfast.

"An unbelievable achievement for everybody in the town and for the community."

Goals from Sion Bradley, Matty Jones' free-kick and an Adrian Cieslewicz header in a devastating opening 18 minutes saw Caernarfon take a firm grip of the final.

"I just asked them before they were going out to just represent the town and to give the passion, commitment and pride that Caernarfon is about," Davies added.

"The boys gave me that in abundance and I couldn't be prouder of them, the way they executed the game plan, the way they played and the quality of the goals.

"I couldn't be prouder of them."

Over 1,500 Caernarfon fans were among the crowd of 2,224 that were at the final.

Davies paid tribute to the "unbelievable" support which had lined the streets outside Rodney Parade when the team coach arrived at the stadium.

"There were hundreds each side of the street with the flares and I had goosepimples and the hair on the back of my neck going up," he said.

"As a player it's so inspirational and it makes you want to give something back.

"We're all in it together and the fans are unbelievable – it's their club. Without them the club is nothing.

"Going to the Oval is probably like going to church for some people,

"It just means so much and it bring so many people joy who enjoy coming to watch the football team.

"It connects a lot of people and it was unbelievable to do that yesterday."

Victory means Caernarfon have secured a place in Europe for the second time in three seasons, something Davies has called a "golden ticket".

"Off the back of that we get to go on an European tour again, which we had a bit of fun last time," he said.

"A lot of people are excited about that as well."

Victory over Flint in the Welsh Cup final came a week after the club's Under-19s won the Welsh Youth Cup, beating The New Saints in the final.

"It's been an unbelievable two weeks for the club to achieve what we have with both teams," Davies said.

"It needs to be celebrated so I'm sure the club will have plans for that."
