Calais Campbell shares his extensive and costly recovery routine that helps him maintain peak performance in the NFL. He emphasizes the importance of investing in recovery treatments and building a supportive team of specialists.
While appearing on The Lounge Podcast with Ryan Mink and Garrett Downing, Calais Campbell discussed the extensive recovery process that has enabled him to continue playing productive football late in his NFL career.
Campbell explained that staying healthy requires a full-time commitment behind the scenes. From recovery treatments to maintaining relationships with physical therapists and specialists who understand his body, the veteran defensive lineman said longevity comes from consistently investing in himself year-round.
“I invest heavily into recovery. Dry needling, hyperbaric chambers, electric stem, physical therapy, massage therapy… all of it. I’ve built relationships with people over the years who really know my body and understand what I need. I’ve tried to build a team around me that can move with me and help me stay healthy year-round. It’s expensive. It takes time. It’s painful sometimes. But this game is painful. Not everybody is willing to pay that price to keep playing at a high level.”
That commitment to preparation and recovery is a major reason why Campbell continues to defy expectations entering another season in Baltimore. Even as he approaches 40, the veteran defensive lineman still believes he can impact games at a high level, and the Ravens clearly believe that, too.
