ELM GROVE, W. Va. — If the OVAC 2A softball trophy feels right at home in the Caldwell trophy case, it's because it has spent five of the last six years there.
Caldwell continued its relentless stranglehold on the OVAC conference Saturday, May 2, 2026 at the Chambers I-470 Fields, dismantling River High 6-2 to secure yet another championship. It was a victory that blended the program's storied recent history with a dominant modern performance, pushing Caldwell's season record to an imposing 15-3.
While the faces in the dugout change, the results remain consistent. Head coach Scott Davis, now in his second year at the helm after a four-year stint as an assistant, has been a constant thread throughout this six-year tear. For Davis, the "secret sauce" isn't really a secret at all.
"It's all this group of girls we have at Caldwell," Davis said. "They are a talented bunch, but when you add a strong work ethic with a desire to be successful to talent ... you have a pretty good formula for success."
Caldwell's offense proved it's versatility early and often. Junior Breighlee Moracco provided the early spark, finishing her day with a rare and efficient four RBIs on a single. Moracco manufactured Caldwell's initial 2-0 lead by grinding out RBI groundouts in both the first and third innings.

While the bats provided the cushion, Mumaw turned the pitching circle into her own personal office. The senior workhorse and ace stifled the Pilots lineup over seven complete innings, allowing two runs on three hits while issuing one free pass and racking up 15 strikeouts.
The win improved Mumaw's season pitching record to 13-1. She has been nearly untouchable through 92 innings pitched, maintaining a 1.22 ERA while striking out 137 batters.
Despite her individual brilliance, Mumaw credits the collective depth of the roster for the team's sustained excellence.
"We are strong in all areas," Mumaw said. "We have a potent offense that has power, but can also play small-ball if the situation calls for it. Our defense is very strong also, and I just try to keep throwing strikes and keeping us in the game. It makes my job easy with them playing behind me. I can relax as I have full trust they have my back."
