BOSTON – These Red Sox aren’t nearly as threatening as last October’s team, which came close to eliminating the Yankees.

Cam Schlittler made himself the Toast of New York by blitzing through Boston’s lineup in the 2025 Wild Card Series clincher, while drawing some ugly, online vitriol from a splintered and shadowy faction of New England fans.

But the Yanks’ seventh-round pick out of Northeastern, hailing from nearby Walpole, Mass., has more than an electric mix of pitches.

“There’s a lot of toughness about him. He’s had to earn things, he had to always prove himself,’’ said Matt Hyde, the Yankees’ area scout who signed Schlittler.

“He wasn’t a huge recruit,’’ and Schlittler wasn’t even the No. 1 starter on his college team.

“Guys who don’t think they’ve arrived yet seem to have an extra edge to them,’’ said Hyde, and that part of Schlittler’s character “has shown itself in the big leagues.’’

From a box seat on Thursday night, Hyde watched Schlittler’s first pro start at Fenway Park, an eight-inning effort in a 4-2 Yankees victory – their sixth straight win.
