Flyers rookie Porter Martone just does not stop. The 19-year-old just finished his first partial season in the NHL, completing 9 regular-season games and 10 in the playoffs. This came fresh off of his NCAA freshman season at Michigan State, with a trip to the 2026 World Juniors Championships in the middle.
After a long year of tough, high-level competition, Martone is not done. At Tuesdayâs exit interviews, Martone revealed that he is heading to the 2026 IIHF Menâs World Championships, getting another chance to represent Canada this season.
Martone said he never really thought about taking a break. It was a no-brainer to go to Worlds. âI love playing this game. Itâs tough to take me off the ice, and you know itâs tough to turn down a chance to represent your country. And itâs always a huge honor whenever you get asked. So you know, Iâm really excited; it should be a fun time.â
This will be Martoneâs second trip to the menâs World Championships. In the months leading up to the draft, he joined Canada for their training camp and played in two games. Itâs where he first met Travis Konecny, Travis Sanheim, and Tyson Foerster.
So, Martone earned a bronze medal at the World Juniors, made it to the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated at Regionals with Michigan State, had a 2nd-round appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and now the World Championships. The 19-year-old does not stop.
Martone will be the Flyersâ lone representative for Canada at the 2026 World Championships. Jack Berglund was named to the Swedish roster for the tournament. The Flyersâ youth will be on display in Switzerland.
