Germany captain Giulia Gwinn has left the team camp due to a dislocated shoulder and will not be available for Saturday's women's World Cup qualifier in Austria.
The German Football Federation (DFB) said on Wednesday that the Bayern Munich player had gone to Munich for further examinations. Her club later announced that the shoulder was dislocated but would be treated conservatively.
Gwinn suffered the left shoulder injury in Tuesday's 5-1 home win over the Austrians in a collision with Melanie Brunnthaler in Nuremberg. She tried to play on but was soon substituted.
Midfielder Elisa Senss spoke of "a shock moment" for the team and so did defender Rebecca Knaak, who said she was wishing Gwinn well and hoping that the injury is not too serious.
It was the latest injury for Gwinn, who has been sidelined twice with cruciate knee ligament tears in her career and last year suffered another injury in Germany's first match at Euro 2025, which ruled her out for the rest of the tournament.
It could also be a blow for Bayern, who host Barcelona on April 25 in a women's Champions League first leg semi-final.
Germany top their World Cup qualifying group with a maximum nine points and are favourites again on Saturday against bottom side Austria despite Gwinn's absence.
Coach Christian Wück will hope for a better performance as he lamented "too many easy mistakes" despite the clear victory.
"I am not fully satisfied with our performance. Only very few players reached their potential," he told broadcaster ZDF.
Giulia Gwinn's dislocated shoulder was caused by a collision with Melanie Brunnthaler during a match against Austria.
Giulia Gwinn's absence due to her dislocated shoulder will impact the German women's team as she is a key player and captain, missing the crucial World Cup qualifier.
Giulia Gwinn's dislocated shoulder will be treated conservatively, as confirmed by her club Bayern Munich.
