Cardiff sign keeper Trott permanently after loan

Cardiff City have signed Nathan Trott permanently following the goalkeeper's promotion-winning season on loan from Copenhagen.

The fee is officially undisclosed but believed to be £1.5m, as stipulated in the original loan agreement, and Trott has signed a three-year deal which will run until the summer of 2029.

Trott joined the Bluebirds last summer and played 41 League One games as they secured an instant return to the Championship.

"It's something that I've wanted to get across the line," Trott told the club website.

"Through the course of the season, I think that all of us were on the same page to get it done, so for it to finally be done now is an amazing feeling."

The 27-year-old kept 16 clean sheets and made several eye-catching saves to earn him a nomination for Cardiff's player of the season.

Trott has also impressed with his ability on the ball, helping head coach Brian Barry-Murphy implement an expansive new playing style.

Trott attributes some of those skills to the fact he played in midfield and defence while growing up in Bermuda.

After a chance switch to play in goal due to a team-mate's injury in an under-15 tournament, Trott was recommended to West Ham United by the Premier League side's Bermudian former striker, Clyde Best.

During his five years with the Hammers, Trott had loan spells at AFC Wimbledon, French side Nancy and Vejle in Denmark, before joining Copenhagen in 2024.

Now Trott gets the chance to be a permanent part of the Bluebirds squad.

"I think it's the perfect group to be part of," he added. "With Brian we've got a good group of players, a good core of young players, the Welsh boys, a few experienced players, and I think we all just gel together really well.

"I've felt the love of the fans since the first game, and as the season has gone on it's only grown every single game. It's been an amazing feeling; it makes it easier for me to play every game knowing that they're behind you, especially away games – they're always there.

"It's a very special environment, a special group of fans and city as well, so I'm looking forward to continuing that story.

"I'm excited for the Championship. I think it's a great opportunity for me to show what I can do. I think everyone saw what I'm capable of this season, but nobody's really seen anything yet in terms of what I can do at a higher level, so I'm excited to get started."
