The Springfield Cardinals lost their fourth consecutive game, falling 5-3 to the Tulsa Drillers. Despite Mason Molina's eight strikeouts, he allowed four runs, including a critical three-run homer.
SPRINGFIELD–The Springfield Cardinals started the 2026 Texas League season as well as any fan could hope, winning their first four games, but have fallen back to earth after losing their fourth in-a-row to the Tulsa Drillers, following Saturday’s 5-3 loss at home.
Despite Springfield hurler, Mason Molina, striking out eight Drillers, which was just one shy of his career high, in five innings, Molina surrendered four of Tulsa’s five runs, which was too much for the Cardinals to overcome.
Molina gave up the first run in the top of the 2nd off a flare to shallow left center that was just out of reach for shortstop Jeremy Rivas. Then, came his big mistake — a 3-run opposite field homer in the top of 6th to Zyrih Hope — to put the game out of reach.
While Springfield did manage to rally late and score three runs, it wasn’t enough. The Cardinals fall to 1-4 at home, on the young season, and will need to win Sunday to avoid falling below .500.
Sunday’s series finale is scheduled for 1 p.m. but strong chances of rain could delay the start time.
