The Springfield Cardinals lost 5-3 to the Wichita Windsurge, marking their seventh consecutive defeat. The team initially led 1-0 but struggled defensively, allowing four home runs.
WICHITA, KSâThe Springfield Cardinals surrendered four home runs and lost, 5-3 to the Wichita Windsurge, on Wednesday, to bump their losing streak to a season-high seven games in-a-row.
Despite having a 1-0 lead off Miguel Uguetoâs first home run of the season, in the top of the first, Cardinals starter, Jurrangelo Cijnte gave up three long balls to the Wind Surge, including two to Ben Ross, to quickly surrender the lead for good.
Springfield did attempt to rally with rbi singles from Chase Davis in the 5th and Jon Jon Gazdar in the 7th, but that was all the Baby Birds offense could muster.
Springfieldâs losing streak started the day after winning itâs home opener on April 7, and since then, lost five straight games to the Tulsa Drillers and, now, lost the first two games of its road series with Wichita.
So far, the title defense for the reigning Texas League champions isnât going as hoped. Then again, after losing key players from last yearâs team like Joshua Baez, Leonardo Bernal, Ixan Henderson, Quinn Matthews, and others, itâs hard to repeat that level of success, especially at the minor league level.
