Carlos Alcaraz has pulled out of the Barcelona Open due to a wrist injury, adding another setback to his 2024 season.
Alcarazās decision to play the tournament came quickly after reaching the Monte-Carlo Masters final and appears to have been a misstep.
The Spaniard had originally planned for a packed clay-court schedule, but this injury will likely force him to scale back those plans in the build-up to Roland Garros.
This isnāt the first time an injury has disrupted Alcarazās clay-court run. He missed both Monte-Carlo and Barcelona in 2022 and withdrew from Rome last year, all due to fitness issues.

Alcaraz has enjoyed plenty of success during the clay court swing in his career, but it hasnāt come without setbacks.
The Spaniard has picked up 11 titles on the surface so far, but heās also missed at least one event each year due to injuries.
Even last season, when he won three of the four Masters events on clay, he still had to skip Madrid with another injury.
On the bright side, Alcaraz has never missed Roland Garros because of an injury. In fact, heās won the tournament back-to-back years, including a memorable comeback against Jannik Sinner in 2025.
The last person to beat him at Roland Garros was Novak Djokovic, who took him down in the 2023 semi-finals.
Right now, Alcaraz will likely be feeling disappointed after pulling out of the Barcelona Open. But heās bounced back from similar situations before.
