Are MMA referees showing signs of improvement lately?

Spain are one of the favourites to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Having won the European Championships in 2024, many expect Spain to complete the double, just as they did back in 2008/2010.

But what does Spanish star Carlos Alcaraz think?
Appearing as a guest on the āIgualesā podcast, the world number two was asked for his thoughts on the 2026 FIFA World Cup and Spainās chances of lifting the trophy.
āIām super excited. Iām really confident,ā said Alcaraz.
āI always say we have a young team, and theyāve already shown that they donāt care about the pressure or what people say.
āI donāt want to go around saying āThey are going to winā, far from it.
āBut I do have confidence in every player, I have confidence in the national team, I think weāre going to do really well in the World Cup.ā
Spain have been drawn in Group H, alongside Uruguay, Cape Verde, and Saudi Arabia.
Carlos Alcaraz expressed confidence in Spain's chances, considering them one of the favorites to win.

Spain aims to replicate their success from 2008 and 2010 by winning both the European Championships and the World Cup.

They shouldnāt have too much trouble making it out of that group, especially if they have star player Lamine Yamal fit.
Alcaraz was asked if he believes Yamal would have started for Spainās 2010 World Cup winning side.

āI donāt think heād be a starter,ā said Alcaraz.
āBut thatās because the experience factor would come into play more than his skills as a player.
āI think the experience factor would play a much bigger role than his quality and skills as a player.
āWould he be the first sub? For sure!ā
Yamal will play a crucial role in Spainās title campaign this summer, although his fitness is now in doubt.
The youngster suffered an injury during Barcelonaās win over Celta Vigo in midweek.
Itās unclear how long Yamal will be out for, but itās certainly a worry.
And heās not the only Spaniard set for a spell on the sidelinesā¦
Looking to bounce back from his Monte Carlo Masters final defeat to Jannik Sinner, Alcaraz returned home for his beloved Barcelona Open.
Disaster struck in his first-round match, though, as he injured his wrist during his win over Otto Virtanen.
Alcaraz pulled out of the tournament the next day and has since announced his withdrawal from the Madrid Open as well.

Speaking during the Laureus Sports Awards in Madrid, Alcaraz seemed unsure over his participation at the second Grand Slam of the year.
The Spaniard is the two-time defending champion at the French Open, and would surely love a chance to win his eighth major title in Paris.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Alcaraz and the Spanish national teamā¦
The 2026 French Open begins on Sunday, May 24, while the World Cup starts on Thursday, June 11.
