Carlos Alcarazâs injury has had a massive impact on the ATP Tour, leaving Jannik Sinner without much in the way of serious competition.
Sinner has wasted no time making the most of that situation either, comfortably winning the Madrid Open in his rivalâs absence.
It wouldnât be surprising to see him carry that form into Rome and Paris, especially after losing both finals to Alcaraz there in 2025.
The entire tennis community seems eager for Alcaraz to come back, not just for his entertaining style of play but also to provide Sinner with a real challenge again.
Finally, after what felt like an endless wait, thereâs been some news about how the world number two is doing physically.

This insight comes from current ATP player Pablo Andujar, speaking to Spanish outlet RNE Deportes, who mentioned he had spoken with Alcaraz just a couple of days earlier.
He said: âNo, look, let me tell you, I was lucky enough to talk to him for five minutes the day before yesterday, and he told me that he wants to come back when heâs 100%. He doesnât set deadlines; he takes it day by day.
âBecause itâs true that I, for example, have my own experience of having had three operationsâwell, five operations on my elbow. When you set deadlines if you donât reach that deadline, that goal can create a certain anxiety, even a little depression.
âSo I think the important thing is that he takes it day by day and I see him as very aware that when he comes back, heâll already be 100%.â
The Spaniard has already pulled out of both the Italian Open and Roland Garros but is aiming to return in time for the grass-court swing.
Alcaraz's injury has led to a lack of serious competition for Jannik Sinner, who has capitalized on this by winning the Madrid Open.

This was echoed by Sky Sports pundit Jonathan Overend, who argued that the world number oneâs absence is a huge blow to the menâs game.
âItâs pretty devastating because in menâs tennis it means Sinner and Alcaraz,â he said. âTheyâve played many times already in their young rivalry but if weâre really honest they havenât played a classic match since the French Open final of last season.â
He argued that the injury in general was âbad news for menâs tennisâ, mainly attributed to the fact that Sinner is now expected to win everything.
Overend added: âItâs going to be quite a lot to ask from him because he will go to Rome, heâll go to Paris, and then of course we hit the grass with Alcaraz on the comeback, so it is entirely possible that he could win everything in the meantime.â
