Carlos Alcaraz is more injured than we realized. How long it will sideline him remains to be seen, but it is not a good sign that his right wrist is in an immobilized splint at the 2026 Laureus World Sports Awards.
Alcaraz pulled out of last weekâs Barcelona Open after incurring the injury. He is not playing this weekâs Mutua Madrid Open. His timeline to return to the court is fluid at this point.
The Italian Open begins May 6, and Roland Garros on May 24. He is the defending champion of both tournaments and if healthy, would like to compete in both.

Alcaraz was spotted smiling and laughing on the red carpet of the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid with the right wrist cast visible beyond his tuxedo.
Tennis is well represented in Laureus nominations with Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner up for World Sportsman of the Year, Aryna Sabalenka for World Sportswoman of the Year, Joao Fonseca the World Breakthrough of the Year, and Amanda Anisimova for World Comeback of the Year.

Alcaraz won the World Sportsman of the Year award. He is the fourth tennis player to do so joining Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, and Rafael Nadal.
