The Houston Astros are off to a brutal 15-22 start, and the team now faces the loss of one of its more important players.
Veteran infielder Carlos Correa missed Tuesday night's game against the Dodgers, as he was a late scratch from the lineup before first pitch. It turns out, Correa's injury is more serious than it initially seemed, as he will miss an extended period of time.
The Astros have a loaded group of players on the injured list, which is part of the reason why the team is seven games under-.500. Correa's absence would be a huge loss for a team that needs to try and turn the season around before risking falling too far back in the American League.

Carlos Correa suffered an ankle injury before Tuesday night's game against the Dodgers that forced the team to scratch Correa from the lineup. Correa suffered the injury in batting practice.
"I was hitting in the cage, normal day, feeling great. I went through my routine, took a swing and just felt a pop," Correa told reporters on Wednesday. "It just completely snapped on my. I fell to the ground and can't put weight on it."
Correa's injury is significant and will force him to miss the season for an already injury-riddled Astros team. The infielder played in 32 of the team's 36 games leading into Tuesday's contest.
Correa had been playing shortstop as Jeremy Pena was on the injured list, but Pena is not too far away from returning to Houston's lineup.
Correa tore a tendon in his left ankle that will require season-ending surgery that typically comes with a 6-8 month recovery time. Chandler Rome of The Athletic reported that Correa saw a foot specialist on Wednesday morning, who helped determine the full extent of the injury.
Correa mentioned he doesn't know when his surgery will occur just yet, as there are other opinions he wants to get before going through with it.
While Correa has dealt with ankle injuries in his career, he's had more trouble with his right ankle than his left ankle over the past few years.
Correa has a checkered injury history that has come into play in the last half-decade. In 2019, Correa had rib and back injuries that limited him to just 75 games, his third-straight season of missing at least 50 games.
Then, when Correa became a free agent after the 2021 and 2022 injuries, concerns with his right ankle prevented him from getting long-term deals with the Giants and Mets. Since 2022, Correa has dealt with injuries to his finger, wrist, hand, back, foot and ankle, along with some time missed due to an intercostal strain.
Still, Correa has played in at least 135 games in four of the previous five seasons, but he appeared in just 86 games in the 2024 season due to a variety of injuries. He will end the 2026 season with just 32 games played, the fewest in his MLB career.
