Carrick says Man Utd players should not āover-celebrateā Champions League qualification
Michael Carrick has warned his players that they should not āover-celebrateā qualifying for the Champions League.
Manchester United took a step closer to confirming their return to Europeās elite competition with a 2-1 home win over Brentford thanks to goals from Casemiro and Benjamin Sesko.
But Carrick says the focus has to remain on finishing with as most points as possible.
āChampions League is one thing but itās not something we should be over-celebrating,ā the United boss said.
āWe want to be finishing higher up the league really, challenging higher up the league and getting more points.
āOur season doesnāt come to a close when that happens. Itās something we need to try and achieve, weāve put ourselves in a great position in this moment but thereās still more work to be done.ā

Casemiro, who will leave the club this summer, scored his ninth goal of the season against Brentford.
Asked if the decision to leave is finalised, Carrick said: āYeah, itās pretty clear. From both sides itās pretty clear.
āHeās had an influence on the group. Heās got huge experience, heās a good player, heās achieved an awful lot in theĀ gameĀ and since Iāve been here heās given everything that he could possibly give.
āThe situation has probably helped that, knowing exactly where heās at, thereās nothing to hide, and heās thrown himself right into it.
āItās football, players come and go. Youāve got to evolve and move on and adapt. Heās definitely giving everything and itās nice heās got that connection with the supporters.ā
