Carter Jensen Shares Admission on Playing for Kansas City Royals

Kansas City Royals rookie catcher Carter Jensen is making a significant impact so far during the 2026 MLB season. For Jensen, playing for the Royals is especially meaningful, as he happens to be from Kansas City.

There are not many players who get to play for the team that represents where they are from. Players can be drafted to any ball club. There are 29 other teams with chances of potentially selecting you. Jensen grew up a Royals fan and even attended a World Series game. Now he is playing for the ball club that he grew up cheering for.

Jensen recently discussed what it means to play in Kansas City, via MLB Network.

"It's a dream come true. It's so hard to describe the feeling," Jensen said.

Simply making the big leagues is impressive enough, but playing for your favorite team surely makes it even more exciting.

Carter Jensen's Impact on Royals in 2026

Jensen, who is only 22 years old, was a top prospect heading into the season. Kansas City believes he can become a star at the MLB level.

In 2025, the catcher appeared in 20 games with the Royals, He ultimately slashed .300/.391/.555 while also hitting three home runs. It was a limited sample size, but Jensen certainly displayed his promise.

He has carried his home run prowess into 2026. Jensen has four home runs through only 18 games up to this point in the season. Overall, he is hitting just .222, but he does have a .463 slugging percentage.

One has to imagine that learning from veteran catcher Salvador Perez is only helping his development. Perez is already one of the greatest Royals to ever play the game. Replacing him will be a challenge, but Jensen currently has the opportunity to be on his team as the players share catching and designated hitter duties.

Jensen's impact on the Royals is undeniable. His future is bright. Will he remain in Kansas City for his entire career? Anything can happen of course. There is a chance that he could be open to the idea since he is from the area, but only Jensen knows how he truly feels.
