Texas A&M's 2026 schedule is deemed 'challenging' as the team prepares for the upcoming season. Coach Mike Elko has welcomed 17 transfer additions and 26 recruits, while key players like quarterback Marcel Reed return.

Texas A&M's spring season has come and gone, officially ending after the annual Maroon & White Game on April 18, as coach Mike Elko, who is entering his third season at the helm, welcomed 17 transfer portal additions, combined with 26 signees from the 2026 recruiting class.
This early in the offseason, assessing Texas A&M's roster will take some time, given the small sample size from just several live scrimmages and the spring game. However, the return of starting quarterback Marcel Reed, who threw for a career-high 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns, is entering his third full starting season, which, in the past, has usually resulted in a career season.
Taking over as the program's offensive coordinator after two seasons as wide receivers coach, Holmon Wiggins will have his hands full due to four new starters along the offensive line, but given OL coach Adam Cushing's track record, the Aggies should be at least above average in the trenches.
Still, adding Alabama transfer wide receiver Isaiah Horton this offseason adds more size to an already established room led by junior Mario Craver, who is widely seen as a potential first-round selection in the 2027 NFL Draft. On defense, Texas A&M's secondary is loaded, while the revamped defensive line is now led by senior defensive tackle and former five-star prospect DJ Hicks.
Compared to last season's schedule, Texas A&M will face LSU and Missouri on the road for a second straight season, plus road trips to Alabama and South Carolina, and will face the in Norman for the first time since leaving the Big 12 before the 2012 season.
Texas A&M's 2026 schedule is considered challenging due to the competitive teams they will face and the adjustments needed with new players and coaching staff.

This schedule could result in a 9-3 or 8-4 finish, but given the talent on the roster, I fully expect the Aggies to be competitive in every game with a chance to pull out a victory. Among the rest of the preseason Top 25 programs, CBS Sports analyst Brad Crawford believes the Aggies have the 6th-toughest schedule in the country with six ranked opponents on the docket.
"Unrelenting compared to last season's relative cakewalk by SEC standards, the Aggies are going to have to earn their stripes this fall. LSU and Missouri are the only two ranked opponents during the first half of the campaign, but the second half is loaded. Traveling to Oklahoma on Nov. 21 is particularly challenging since games like that don't exist in a vacuum -- they take a toll, especially when sandwiched between other high-level opponents (Tennessee and Texas at Kyle Field)."
Texas A&M finished undefeated in Kyle Field during the 2025 regular season, and outside of the first-round loss to Miami in the CFP, the Aggies have taken full advantage of playing at home, but will likely need to defeat Texas for the first time since the Longhorns joined the SEC before the 2024 season.
