John Henry Daley, a former Utah player, is ranked sixth among the top impact transfers for 2026 by CBS Sports. After an All-American season, his return from injury is crucial for Michigan's defensive line.
Kyle Whittingham has often said that Michigan football's biggest strength is the defensive line, and while that was apparent in the spring game, it should be much more apparent come the season. And the big reason why is that we haven't seen arguably the biggest impact player that the Wolverines have to offer.
There hasn't been a ton of hype surrounding Utah transfer John Henry Daley, in large part due to him not being available in spring ball after rupturing his Achilles tendon to close out last year. But the All-American had one of the best seasons an edge rusher could have, and after bursting onto the scene last year, should he return healthy as anticipated, he could be a real game-changer.
So much so that he came in sixth in CBS Sports' biggest impact transfers in 2026.
6. John Henry Daley, EDGE, Michigan
Former school: Utah
Coming off an All-American season at Utah after producing 11.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss, Daley exemplifies what Kyle Whittingham is planning to bring to Ann Arbor -- power and tenacity up front. He's still working his way back from an Achilles injury, but is on track to resume full football activities by June 1. Daley gives the Wolverines a veteran presence where it's desperately needed following the exits of defensive tackle , edge rusher and EDGE to the NFL Draft. If this defense plans on combating one of the Big Ten's toughest slates, Daley's impact every weekend is vital.

The rotation figures to be deep at EDGE with Daley rotating with Dom Nichols, Cam Brandt, Nate Marshall, and Lugard Edokpayi. That quintet is mostly unproven outside of Daley, but from what we saw in the spring game of those who aren't Daley indicate that they've grown into their new roles under edge rusher coach Lewis Powell, who oversaw Daley's emergence in Salt Lake City last year.
No other Wolverines appeared on Brad Crawford's top 20, but we'd argue that wide receiver JJ Buchanan should also make the cut, as he comes in as a starting wideout in a revamped offense that should be much more adept at getting the ball downfield.
