Celtics beat writer John Karalis included the 26-year-old among the team's potential free agent targets in an article published on Thursday.
"We know what he can bring offensively. He made some strides defensively, too. He’d probably take up most of, if not all of, the full mid-level," Karalis wrote.
Simons finished his Boston tenure averaging 14.2 points, 2.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 24.5 minutes per game across 49 contests off the bench while recording a .440/.395/.889 shooting line.
