Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has accused referees of having an "agenda" against him in the NBA playoffs.
Brown, 29, made the claim during a Twitch livestream on Sunday, May 3, one day after the Celtics were defeated by the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 7 of their first-round playoff series, 109-100. Brown, who had 10 offensive fouls in the series, said the officiating crew "clearly had an agenda" and suggested it was "maybe because I spoke and was critical of the refs in the regular season."
"So, you know how they responded, 'You're gonna lead the playoffs in offensive fouls.' That was the response from the officiating crew, you could clearly tell," Brown continued.

The Celtics star also used a clip of a specific play he was called for a foul on, arguing, "It's a common basketball play, every player does it," and asked, "So why are you targeting me?"
Brown claimed his theory of an "agenda" was supported by some league officials. "I actually spoke to some refs and they said it was an agenda going into each game," Brown said, adding, "Any time Jaylen brings his arm up, just from reputation, just call it, but [76ers forward] Paul George does the sam thing, [New York Knicks guard] Jalen Brunson does the same thing. I could go down the list."
Brown said the 76ers "took advantage of the officiating" to win the series after being down three games to one.
Brown concluded his rant with a message to officials, telling them they "better keep that same energy with everybody else" as the playoffs continue.
Brown's claims weren't met with much support from disappointed Celtics fans, who felt he was making excuses for the team's poor play to close out the series. One popular NBA podcaster said, "Really dislike everything he’s said since losing. Bummer," in response to the clip from Brown's Twitch. "He pushed off multiple times in every game. He gets away with so many offensive falls. I think he needs a little more self awareness," said another fan.
Now that they've defeated Brown and Boston, the 76ers will take on the New York Knicks in the second round of the NBA playoffs.
Game 1 tips off from New York on Monday, May 4, at 8 p.m. ET.
